Pilgrimage visits to Iraq only via HPO

TEHRAN, Jan. 3 (MNA) -- Head of the state passport police Mahmoud Sadeqi announced on Monday that Iranian pilgrims only can visit Iraqi religious sites through Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization.

Because of security and welfare problems Iranian pilgrims are not allowed to visit Iraqi religious sites individually or through pilgrimage caravans which are not related to Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization.

He requested people to avoid travelling to borders for visiting Iraq during Arbaeen.

Arbaeen ceremony marks the end of 40 days of mourning since Ashura (the anniversary of Imam Hossein martyrdom) ritual.
